By now we all know that Aamir Khan’s recently released film Dangal was one of the biggest money spinners of 2016. The film which was based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat released on December 23 to rave reviews from the critics and the audience alike. The film performed so well, that it managed to break into the Rs. 100 crore club within three days of its release. But away from the domestic box office we hear of yet another record of sorts that Dangal has managed to achieve.

In fact, we hear that Dangal that released across 4300 screens in the domestic market managed to gross Rs. 100 crore at the theatre (multiplex chain) PVR Cinemas. Dangal has made PVR the first Indian cinema chain to have collected 100 crore+ for a film. As of 12 Jan 2017, Dangal had collected 101 cr. (GROSS) across the cinema chain.

Interestingly, PVR is one of the largest multiplex chains in India with a count of 562 screens at 122 properties in 48 cities, seems to be the biggest contributor to the total collections of Rs. 374.95 cr that Dangal has managed to accumulate at the box office.

Another reason why this massive collection is interesting is because of the fact that most theatre owners reported a drop in overall footfalls and subsequent collections after the demonetization move that was announced. However, while a few films like Rock On 2 and Kahaani 2 did suffer in terms of collections due to this, Dangal on the other hand remained rock stead while managing to entice the audience.
