All those who are reading this piece currently, feel proud, really proud about the fact that you are a part of history now. Though the current generation has seen many a record been created and broken during last few years when it comes to Box Office collections, never before has such a feat been observed, the kind that Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion has earned for itself. The film has smashed records left, right and centre across the country and while one waits to know more about how the film has fared in its language of origin [Telugu], when it comes to the dubbed Hindi version the SS Rajamouli affair has gone through the roof.
The film has collected, hold your breath, an unimaginable Rs. 38.5 crore* on its first day. Now these are records numbers indeed has never before on a non-holiday has a film recorded such astronomical number. Before this, the record was held by Dhoom 3 which had brought in Rs. 36.22 crore on its opening day and that included numbers from the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions as well. Moreover, it arrived at the onset of holiday season since Christmas fell on Tuesday and the momentum kick-started from Friday itself. In case of the Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty starrer, the film is a clear non-holiday release.
The magnitude of the film’s ‘baahubali’ collections can well be gauged from the fact that the numbers are bigger than the best opening day that 2017 had seen so far [Rs. 30.85 crore]. This was when Raees [Rs. 20.42 crore] and Kaabil [Rs. 10.43 crore] arrived together amidst so much of hype around the clash and still managed to just about cross Rs. 30 crore (though the film had released on Wednesday and it was the next day which was a holiday [Republic Day]). Still, all said and done, Baahubali 2 has smashed this number by miles and that too despite being a dubbed film.
Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion has created HISTORY and shown loud and clear that audiences are willing to give well mounted films a dekko; it is a matter of making the right promises and then living up to them.
