408 0

n its third week, Dangal has set another huge record by collecting Rs. 46.35 crore. So what really is that? Well, there have been just a few releases other than Dangal which have collected more in their first week, when compared to the third week collections of the Aamir Khan.

Sounds unbelievable? Well, take a look at Week One collections of the 15 biggies, barring Dangal:

Sultan – Rs. 208.82 crore

M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – Rs. 94.13 crore

Rustom – Rs. 90.9 crore

Airlift – Rs. 83.5 crore

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Rs. 80.19 crore

Housefull 3 – Rs. 80.1 crore

Fan – Rs. 71.5 crore

Shivaay – Rs. 70.41 crore

Baaghi – Rs. 59.72 crore

Dishoom – Rs. 53.34 crore

Mohenjo Daro – Rs. 51.18 crore

Befikre – Rs. 48.75 crore

Udta Punjab – Rs. 48.5 crore

Dear Zindagi – Rs. 47 crore

Kapoor & Sons – Rs. 46.93 crore

One look at the entire first week collections of next five films in the pipeline and you further get to know how Dangal is reigning supreme even in its third week:

Ki & Ka – Rs. 37.57 crore

A Flying Jatt – Rs. 36.85 crore (8 days)

Pink – Rs. 35.91 crore

Neerja – Rs. 35.32 crore

Ghayal Once Again – Rs. 34.25 crore

The film has now collected Rs. 359.87 crore and this is the first time since its release that there has been a huge reduction in the number of shows. OK Jaanu, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and some major regional films have resulted in new software for theatres and hence it is pretty much on the cards that there would be a steep decline in collections from this point on. As a matter of fact even weekdays have not been super strong for Dangal (as compared to the momentum that was built over the weekend), which means a supreme hold in the fourth week looks tough.

A lot would now depend on the content and subsequent acceptance of the newer releases for the eventual numbers that the Nitesh Tiwari directed film fetches.
