As was pretty much expected, Mom grew over the weekend, what with Rs. 14 crore* coming in. This was always on the cards, considering the fact that the film had seen appreciation coming from the urban audience at major cities. The numbers are substantially lesser than the weekend numbers of Pink though which stood at Rs. 21.50 crore. However, that film was a much crisper drama and also had the towering presence of Amitabh Bachchan. Here, Sridevi is the central protagonist with good support from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna while still trying to pull in audience entirely on her own.
The film would now have to stay super stable right through the weekdays which means at least Rs. 2 crore would have to come on day by day basis. That seems possible for now though the fact also remains that the maximum moolah would need to come in the current week since Jagga Jasoos arrives on the coming Friday.
On the other hand Guest Iin London saw some growth too with weekend numbers of Rs. 8 crore*. The film is fighting a lone battle as it is entirely on its own with no real media or industry support. If the numbers are relatively low then it has only itself to blame, courtesy dozens of fart jokes that have managed to repel a good section of the audience. Otherwise, it had in it to do much better business than what it is doing currently.
Spider-Man: Homecoming has stayed on to be the best bet of the week. The film’s collections are more than the combined numbers of Mom and Guest Iin London which tells the tale. The franchise has done well again and though the business is not stupendous, it is still good enough to ensure profitable returns from the Indian market as well.
