Box Office: October (pre-Diwali) turns out to be poorest for Bollywood after a harrowing May (IPL)

The month of October has seen the lowest point ever for Bollywood in the month of 2016. In fact one wonders if the situation was so terrible in any of the months from the years gone by as well since just 20 crore coming in from the Box Office run of the new releases and that too from an entire month is something which is impossible to comprehend.

The weekend gone by hasn’t helped the cause either for Bollywood as films have been falling like nine pins. Even though as many as 13 films have already released in October, not a single one has done well.

Moolah listed below is for the films that have been *released* in a particular month. For e.g: Baaghi may have released on 29th April and primarily earned in May. However, its collections have been accounted for in the month of April.

This is how the list looks like:

January – 248 crore

February – 140 crore

March – 154 crore

April – 223 crore

May – 100 crore

June – 208 crore

July – 436 crore

August – 256 crore

September – 316 crore

October* – 20 crore

As is apparent, October is the dullest month for the new releases (though just like Baaghi, M.S. Dhoni had released on the last Friday of September and had mainly earned in October), while July has been the best (courtesy Sultan).

The next three biggest months are August, January and April, and these are the months when Rustom, Airlift and Baaghi (and Fan) had made money.

May has been the poorest (after October) and the month didn’t register a single hit! This was when IPL was in full swing right through the month.

*The month is still running and the scenario is expected to change with the release of Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil on 28th October
