The Aamir Khan starrer Dangal has been rocking the box office ever since its release. After collecting Rs. 29.78 cr on its opening day, Dangal managed to enter the Rs. 100 crore club in just three days collecting Rs. 107.01 cr. Post ruling the roost on its opening week, Dangal followed up by becoming one of the highest second weekend grossers as well. Now as the film’s collections slow down, we take an analytical view while predicting the total box office number Dangal is expected to close its box office run at.
To reason our outcome, we need to first view the box office collections of Dangal since its release, along with the records that the film has managed to overcome. After collecting Rs. 197.54 cr. in Week 1, Dangal became the second highest opening week grosser, following it by becoming the highest second week grosser collecting Rs. 115.96 cr in week two. Achieving Rs. 353.68 cr till date (10th January), Dangal has become the highest grosser till date in the history of Bollywood.
Now looking at the rate of collections at the box office, it is estimated, with all the math and number crunching at our disposal that Dangal is likely to close collections in the vicinity of Rs. 385 crores. This assumption is based on the fact that Dangal that has had a stellar run is likely to collect Rs. 8 crores in the coming weekdays (Wednesday and Thursday) with another Rs. 12-14 cr. coming in over the weekends. Post the release of Ok Jaanu, it can add another Rs. 10-12 cr. to its kitty.
Though if the business of Dangal will close at Rs. 385 cr, it will be a while before we might see one of Aamir’s films make it to the Rs. 400 cr club. But even Rs. 385 cr. by itself is a huge feat and this deserves a standing ovation for Aamir Khan.
