Over the past couple of years, Indian consumers have shifted to digital services for entertainment options in remarkable numbers. In fact the Indian market that has off late become open to newer apps and features has welcomed with open arms the entry of international streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Both the streaming apps have also ventured into the territory of original content production and content acquisition. In fact Netflix has even signed deals with major market players like Videocon and Airtel to enter the DTH streaming market, thus getting access to television sets across the country.
If that wasn’t all we had in fact even reported that Netflix had locked a deal with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chilies Entertainment for the actor’s catalogue of films. Now, we hear that the web streaming major, whose CEO Reed Hastings was recently snapped with Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan at Mannat, has apparently offered a deal for the satellite and digital rights of the latter’s next venture.
In fact, if what we hear is true then Netflix has reportedly signed a deal worth a whopping Rs. 120 cr with Aamir Khan. According to the metrics of this deal, the streaming giant will acquire the satellite and digital rights of Aamir’s next venture, while the actor will retain the worldwide theatrical and the music rights of the film. Though neither of the parties have made any officially announcement yet, this could possibly be the biggest digital and satellite deal locked in Bollywood till date.
Going by this, we guess both Amazon and Netflix that have taken to movie acquisition with a vengeance in India are here to stay. And will certainly change the face of entertainment in India in the years to come.
