If one thought that it would be only fun-n-frolic with Jolly LLB 2, then well, those myths have been dispelled. We had an exclusive dekko of the theatrical promo of the film and it is quite apparent that the film is high on drama and while there are going to be lighter moments in there as well, it would stem out of situational humor instead of any forced comic element in there.
It is pretty much visible though that Jolly LLB 2 carries forward the ethos of the first in the series, something that had made the Arshad Warsi starrer much loved by the audience. Now that there is a superstar in the form of Akshay Kumar leading the show, there has been no compromise in the core spirit that Jolly LLB possesses. Yet again, it is the simplicity with street smart action in display here, what with Akshay Kumar playing a struggling lawyer Jagdeeshwar Mishra who doesn’t mind letting the judge know his plight in the personal life as well.
While all of this is expected to bring on some chuckles for the audience, one gets more than just a hint that with Jolly LLB 2, Akshay Kumar and Subhash Kapoor are bringing on a case that would indeed make it to the headlines. The promo pretty much keeps the real issue under the surface and just brings to fore the characters, stage, setting and the battle that would be fought inside as well as outside the court. While the common element in there is Saurabh Shukla who returns as the judge, the opposition lawyer moves on from Boman Irani to Annu Kapoor. Given the kind of talent on display here, there should be fireworks galore.
As for the ladies in the film, while Huma Qureshi and Sayani Gupta seem to be stepping in as supporting pegs to the drama, the man of the moment – Akshay Kumar – is pretty much running the show all over again. The actor has been demonstrating his versatility as a businessman (Airlift), conman (Housefull 3) and a Navy officer (Rustom). Now by willing to wear a terry-cot shirt and Bata shoes while riding a scooter in Lucknow, he is happy to step in as a middle class lawyer as well who doesn’t mind mending a few rules if they help him make ends meet.
The film, which is backed by Fox, is pretty much awaited at the Box Office and has been completed in quick time. Come 10th February and one would get to see what indeed is the core issue that is being fought by Jolly LLB 2, when he takes on the state no less.
The plot thickens!
