After the last clash in Diwali with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, Bollywood is set for yet another clash in 2017. Two superstars, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan are all set to compete in theatres with their respective releases, Kaabil and Raees. While the industry is eagerly awaiting the results and consequences of the said clash, Rakesh Roshan recently revealed why it was inevitable.
In an interview to a daily, Rakesh Roshan mentioned that he is superstitious about release dates and never likes delaying it. ‘It is strictly business not personal’, quoted Rakesh Roshan from Godfather. Amidst speculations about fallout between the actor-producer and Shah Rukh Khan, Rakesh also maintained that he is neither angry nor hurt with the clash. Further, the veteran actor also added that Shah Rukh Khan along with the producers of Raees, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, had met him twice in order to discuss about the clash but when the former stated that the box office window would collectively open to a collection of Rs. 300 crores, the Raees makers decided to go ahead and retain the Republic Day release (January 25).
Further, talking about why he is superstitious about release dates, Rakesh Roshan reminisced about an earlier incident when he was supposed to release the Jackie Shroff starrer King Uncle. He had pushed the release date of the film owing to the wedding of his daughter Sunaina and it had tanked at the box office. After that Rakesh decided not to change the release dates of films once announced no matter how dangerous the clash is. Interestingly, King Uncle was the first film wherein Rakesh Roshan had collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan. The film had the superstar in a supporting role.
Besides this, the producer Roshan also maintained that he wouldn’t try to combat the clash and will not up the marketing quotient. Adding that this film is in a completely different space wherein it is the revenge saga of a blind man who has been wronged, Rakesh Roshan is more than happy and looking forward for the release of Kaabil.
On the other hand, Rakesh Roshan also discussed about the changing dynamics of personal relationship with his son and superstar Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik has moved out of his father’s house after his divorce with Sussanne Roshan but according to his father, nothing has changed between them. He still spends time with his family and generally has breakfast at his father’s residence. However, explaining the reason for Hrithik moving out, Rakesh revealed that Hrithik Hrithik was uncomfortable throwing impromptu parties and spending time with his friends amidst his father’s presence, hence he got his own place. However, even after living separately, according to Rakesh, not much has changed.
