Recently, the renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur announced his next film which was a biopic on the young Bruce Lee titled Little Dragon (working title). The $20M project excited almost everyone in Hollywood. Back home, besides the excitement, there was also a challenge in the waiting for Shekhar Kapur in the form of the maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who immediately announced that he (also) will be making a film on the same subject and will release on the same day as Shekhar Kapur’s film. He reasoned the same as “Just because of my devotional worship of Bruce Lee I am going to make his biopic and release it same time as Shekhar Kapur’s authorised one”.
Like always, Ram Gopal Varma took resort to the social media aka his favourite mouthpiece and made an announcement about his film. Not the one to stop at that, Ram Gopal Varma went on a posting spree on the social media. While clarifying his personal equation with Shekhar Kapur, Ram Gopal Varma said, “I have nothing against Shekhar kapoor who I admire immensely but it’s just my obsessive fascination for Bruce Lee”. Ram Gopal Varma also stated that, as compared to him and Shekhar Kapur, it was him who would do a better job in making the film. Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “Inspite of closeness of family and brilliance of @shekharkapur i believe only I can do justice to do his biopic”. In the same breath, he wrote, “I know tremendously more about Bruce Lee than his daughter Shannon Lee, his wife Linda Lee and @shekharkapur”. The icing on the cake was in the form of his blog in which Ram Gopal Varma had poured his feelings towards Bruce Lee. In his heartfelt blog, Ram Gopal Varma made absolute no qualms in confessing that “Bruce Lee is the one and only who i loved more than sex.”
On the films’ front, Ram Gopal Varma is busy with the most eagerly awaited Sarkar 3, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Amit Sadh, Yami Gautam and Ronit Roy in prominent roles. The film will be releasing on 12 May this year.
